69-Year-Old Man Struck, Killed by Vehicle in Richmond County, Georgia

RICHMOND COUNTY, GA. – According to a news report posted online by, a 69-year-old man was struck and killed by a vehicle in Richmond County, Georgia. WJBF reports that the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has stated that the driver of the vehicle has not been charged.*

The incident happened in the evening on Saturday, February 23, on Peach Orchard Road in Richmond County. A 69-year-old man was reportedly attempting to cross Peach Orchard Road at approximately 7 p.m., when a northbound vehicle ran into him in the 2500 block of the roadway. The report from WJBF did not say whether there was a crosswalk in the area or where the man was walking at the time of the collision.

The man was severely injured in the crash, according to WJBF, and emergency responders transported him to Augusta University Medical Center for treatment. WJBF reports that the man did not survive and was pronounced deceased at the hospital at approximately 7:15 p.m. that evening. The Richmond County Coroner’s Office ruled the cause of death blunt force trauma, according to WJBF. 

The make and model of the vehicle that hit the man were not provided in the WJBF report. No information was provided about the driver of the vehicle, either. However, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office was reported as saying that there were no charges against the driver of the vehicle. 

The report from WJBF took the statement from the sheriff’s office to mean that no charges would be filed at a later date, either. That information was not confirmed. The WJBF report did not provide information from law enforcement about the circumstances surrounding charges or lack thereof.
