Two People Injured in Multi-Vehicle Accident in Clayton County, Georgia

CLAYTON COUNTY, GA. – According to an online news report published by, two people were injured in a multi-vehicle accident in Clayton County, Georgia. The cause of the accident is not yet known, and the circumstances surrounding the collision are not clear at this time.* 

The accident happened in the late afternoon on Friday, February 22, during the afternoon rush hour on Interstate 285. At approximately 4 p.m. that day, several vehicles collided on the outer loop of Interstate 285 in Clayton County. The crash happened next to the exit to Riverdale Road. 

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that a tractor-trailer and an SUV were discovered in a wooded area off of the interstate, and these vehicles were believed to have been involved in the accident. The makes and models of these vehicles were not reported. No information on any other vehicles was reported, so it is unclear how many vehicles were ultimately involved in the accident.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that two people were trapped in one of the vehicles at the scene, and emergency responders had to extricate them from the vehicle. These two people, who were not identified, were then taken to a local hospital for treatment. The seriousness of their injuries was not reported, nor were their current conditions. 

The interstate was closed for about an hour after the accident happened. During this time, drivers were encouraged to use Interstate 75 or Interstate 85 for alternate routes through Clayton County. The interstate reopened around 5 p.m. that day. No additional information was included in the posted news report.
