Five Vehicle Accidents Occur on Same Day in Houston County, Georgia
HOUSTON COUNTY, GA. – According to an online news story reported by wgxa.tv, five vehicle accidents occurred on the same day in Houston County, Georgia. Georgia State Patrol says that distracted driving played a role in several of these accidents.*
All of these vehicle accidents occurred on Friday, February 22, in Houston County. The first occurred at 10 a.m. on Interstate 75 North. This accident reportedly involved two vehicles, and WGXA indicates that no one sustained injuries in this wreck.
Less than an hour later, a second vehicle accident happened on I-75 North in Houston County. WGXA reports that three vehicles were involved in this accident. It is not clear if anyone was injured.
Less than 10 minutes after that, a third vehicle wreck occurred on I-75 North, involving a Jeep and a tractor-trailer. WGXA reports that one person was killed in this collision, and the victim’s identity has not been released.
Before the day was over, two more accidents happened in Houston County. One occurred at about 12:30 p.m. on Moss Oaks Road and involved a construction vehicle and a truck. WGXA indicates that two people were injured in this accident and transported to a hospital.
The final collision took place at approximately 1:30 p.m. on State Route 127. A passenger vehicle and a tractor-trailer were involved in this accident, and it is not clear if anyone was injured.
Georgia State Patrol Sgt. Craig Smith said that distracted driving was a contributing factor in some of these collisions.
“Distracted driving probably played a lot at least in the second two crashes that came along, because what happens is, people get distracted by all the cars around them,” Smith said. “People are slowing down, changing lanes, some people are being courteous, some people are not being courteous. And that sometimes leads to these situations where we got cars running into each other.”
