Jogger Seriously Injured in Vehicle Collision in Dunedin, Florida
DUNEDIN, FL. – According to a news report posted online by wfla.com, a jogger was seriously injured in a vehicle collision in Dunedin, Florida. The jogger was flown from the scene to a hospital via medical helicopter. His current medical condition has not been reported.*
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office says the accident occurred in the late morning on February 19 at an intersection in Dunedin. A jogger was traveling on Winchester Drive at about 11:30 a.m. that day and came to the intersection with Belcher Road. The jogger then started into the intersection, attempting to cross the roadway from east to west.
A vehicle that was traveling north on Belcher Road then ran into the jogger. The report from WFLA Channel 8 News said the jogger crossed into the path of the vehicle, and the driver of the vehicle was not able to stop in time. The report also stated that investigators said the jogger was not inside of a crosswalk when the accident happened.
The WFLA Channel 8 News report says the jogger, a 47-year-old man, sustained serious injuries. A medical helicopter airlifted the man to a nearby hospital for treatment. The report did not list the hospital and did not provide the man’s current condition.
It does not appear that the driver of the vehicle, a 53-year-old man, sustained any injuries in the accident. The news report did not say whether anyone else was in the vehicle. The Major Accident Investigation Team of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the accident, and deputies did not release further information in this report.
