At approximately 7 a.m. on February 19, a 29-year-old man from Marietta, Georgia, was walking inside the center turning lane on Cobb Parkway in Cobb County. A Ford F-150 traveling on Cobb Parkway then hit the man while trying to turn left into the base’s main gate. Impact during this collision resulted in the man falling into a southbound lane of the roadway, where a Dodge pickup truck also hit him.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that emergency responders took the man to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, and he died at the hospital.
An officer with the Marietta Police Department said the drivers of both pickup trucks remained at the scene after the accident, and they were cooperating with the investigation. The investigation is ongoing, and no information about potential charges, if any, has been reported.
Officials shut down traffic both ways on Cobb Parkway following the accident to investigate. The closure affected the Franklin Gateway at the base during the Tuesday morning commute.
