Highway Patrol Responds to Two Fatal Accidents in Jacksonville, Florida

JACKSONVILLE, FL. – As reported online in a news story from, Florida Highway Patrol responded to two fatal accidents that occurred just minutes apart in Jacksonville, Florida. One was a two-vehicle accident, and the other was a pedestrian accident. Two people were killed in these accidents, and another was injured.*

The first accident happened at approximately 1:15 a.m. on February 19 on Interstate 295. Troopers say a 33-year-old man from Tampa, Florida, was driving a Nissan Sentra north on I-295, when he crashed into one of the barriers on the side of the interstate. It appears the Nissan then bounced and crashed into the opposite barrier, as well. 

At some during the incident, a northbound Chevrolet Impala came upon the Nissan and was not able to avoid hitting it. The two vehicles then collided, with the front of the Chevy hitting the passenger’s side of the Nissan. 

The driver of the Chevy, a 32-year-old man from Jacksonville, was seriously injured in the collision. He died in the wreck, according to Florida Highway Patrol. 

About 20 minutes after this wreck, Troopers were called to the scene of another fatal accident. This accident happened on U.S. Highway 90 and Otis Road in Jacksonville. A pedestrian was reportedly walking in the area, when a Chevrolet Silverado traveling on U.S. 90 hit him. 

The pedestrian, a 31-year-old man from Jacksonville, was killed in the accident. The 21-year-old driver of the Silverado, whose name was not released, was not injured. 

Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating both collisions, and Troopers have not reported further information at this time.
