One Killed, One Injured in Chain-Reaction Wreck in Washington County, Florida
WASHINGTON COUNTY, FL. - An online news story from wjhg.com reports that one person was killed, and one person was injured in a chain-reaction wreck in Washington County, Florida. The two victims have been identified by authorities, but no one else involved in the crash has been named in reports.*
On the afternoon of February 18, Florida Highway Patrol received a call about a vehicle accident on State Road 79 in Washington County. It is not clear what time the call came into authorities. Troopers arrived at the scene located in a construction zone on State Road 79 and found that three vehicles had been involved in the collision.
It appears traffic was stopped on the roadway due to ongoing construction, but a Dodge Ram pickup truck failed to slow or stop for traffic ahead. The Dodge ended up crashing into the back of a Honda Accord, which sent the Honda crashing into the back of another vehicle. The make and model of the third vehicle were not provided in reports.
The two occupants of the Honda were both seriously injured in the collision. Injuries to the passenger in the Honda were fatal, and officials declared her deceased at the scene. She is identified as 68-year-old Judy Haines, of Tennessee.
The driver of the Honda was transported to a nearby hospital. He is in serious condition. Officials identified him as 70-year-old Scott Haines, of Tennessee.
The other people involved in the collision sustained minor injuries, authorities said. It is unclear if any of them was taken to a hospital. None of these people has been identified.
