One Person Injured in Train Accident in Coffee County, Georgia

COFFEE COUNTY, GA. – One person was injured in a train accident in Coffee County, Georgia, according to an online news story reported by Authorities said a train crashed into a tractor-trailer on Barrington Road in Coffee County, but they did not provide any information about how the accident happened.* 

The crash took place in the late afternoon hours of Monday, February 18. A CSX train traveling in Coffee County collided with a tractor-trailer at Barrington Road and Highway 32, according to information from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies said that one person was injured in the crash and transported to a local hospital. 

It is assumed that this person was the driver of the tractor-trailer, but that information has not been confirmed. The person’s name was not released, and the extent of his or her injuries is not known. However, Coffee County Sheriff Chief Deputy Fred Cole said that the person was expected to survive. 

Authorities did not release information about how the accident happened. They did not say whether lights or a gate were present at the crossing or whether they were operating if so. Deputies also did not report on whether they believed the tractor-trailer driver or the train operator might have been at fault in the collision. 

Crews arrived at the scene and were working to investigate and clear the wreckage. The crossing was closed down during this time, and motorists were encouraged to use alternate routes to avoid the area if possible. No further information is yet available regarding the accident.
