Troopers Still Looking for Driver in Fatal Pedestrian Crash in Clayton County, GA
CLAYTON COUNTY, GA. – Troopers with the Georgia State Patrol are still looking for the driver involved in a deadly hit-and-run pedestrian crash that happened in January in Clayton County, Georgia, according to an online news story reported by fox5atlanta.com. Authorities have obtained surveillance video that shows the accident, but they have not yet been able to identify the vehicle or driver.*
The crash happened in January on Mount Zion Road in Clayton County. A pedestrian attempted to cross the roadway and was hit by an oncoming vehicle. The vehicle driver then left the scene and did not report the accident to police. Clayton County officials identified the pedestrian as 51-year-old man from Fayetteville, North Carolina. The man died of the injuries he sustained in the crash.
Georgia State Patrol responded to the scene and has been investigating the accident since it occurred. Troopers have obtained some video footage from the area that shows the crash. The footage is not of ideal clarity because of the distance from which it was captured and the fact the accident happened in the dark.
However, investigators have been able to deduce from the video that the vehicle in question slowed down after hitting Brown, then drove away. Based on the video and information provided by a witness, Troopers believe the vehicle involved is a red pickup truck, likely an older model. They have not released a make or model for the truck.
So far, investigators have not been able to locate the vehicle or make an arrest. Anyone with information about this accident is encouraged to contact Georgia State Patrol as soon as possible.
