Georgia Livestock Truck Involved in Crash in Anderson County, South Carolina
ANDERSON COUNTY, SC. – According to a news story reported online by foxcarolina.com, a Georgia livestock truck was involved in a vehicle crash in Anderson County, South Carolina. One of the people involved in the collision was killed, and officials have released his name in public reports.*
At approximately 4:30 p.m., a livestock truck was carrying chickens on Highway 24 in Anderson County, South Carolina. The tractor-trailer was operating for Columbia Farms of Georgia, which is affiliated with House of Raeford Farms, a processing plant with locations in South Carolina and Georgia.
Witness statements indicate that a sedan traveling in the opposite direction of the livestock truck crossed the centerline of the highway near the double bridges over Lake Hartwell and crashed into the truck. Reports say that a second sedan was also involved in the crash, but it is not clear how this vehicle became part of the collision.
South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Anderson County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene. One person was declared dead at the site of the crash, and the coroner’s office identified that person as a male. The man's age and city were not included in reports. County Coroner Don McCown said that the man was driving the first sedan that crossed into opposite traffic.
No one else involved in the accident has been identified at this time. House of Raeford Farms released a statement after the crash, saying that the truck driver sustained minor injuries and had already been released from medical treatment. The company added that it was keeping the victim’s family in its thoughts and prayers.
