Dump Truck Driver Charged in Three-Vehicle Wreck in Dawson County, Georgia

DAWSON COUNTY, GA. – According to a news story published online by, a dump truck driver has been charged in connection with a three-vehicle wreck that occurred in Dawson County, Georgia. The driver of the dump truck reportedly failed to stop at a red light and ended up crashing into two other vehicles.* 

At approximately 2:35 p.m. on February 18, a Ford dump truck that was traveling north on Georgia Highway 400 came to the intersection with Georgia Highway 53 and failed to stop for a red light. The dump truck entered the intersection and collided with a Nissan van that was attempting to turn left from westbound Highway 53. 

The driver of the dump truck, identified as 59-year-old Jackie Wilson, of Decatur, Georgia, tried to swerve to avoid the crash, but it was too late. After impact with the Nissan van, the dump truck overturned and fell onto a Honda Pilot that was also turning left from westbound Highway 53. 

The driver of the Honda became trapped in the vehicle, and emergency responders had to remove the dump truck and free her from the wreckage. This driver, identified as 35-year-old Ashley Andrews, of Gainesville, Georgia, was injured and taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Her current condition is not known. 

The driver of the Nissan was reportedly not injured in the accident. Wilson was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with unknown injuries. Authorities charged Wilson with failure to obey a traffic control device, failure to maintain a lane, and driving with an expired license plate. 

Authorities have not reported why Wilson ran the red light, nor have they said what company Wilson was driving for at the time.
