February 22, 2019

CLAYTON COUNTY, GA. – According to a news report posted online by 11alive.com, a four-vehicle crash blocked traffic on Interstate 285 near a major Georgia airport. The accident happened on the morning of February 16 and delayed travels to Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. Two people were injured in the wreck.*

The crash took place on the morning of February 16, but reports did not say what time it happened. The accident was on I-285 West in Clayton County and involved four vehicles, causing traffic backups close to the junction with Interstate 75 for about three hours. Drivers in the area were extremely delayed due to the collision, particularly traffic going to the airport.

According to information from the Georgia Department of Transportation, two people sustained injuries in the accident, and one person was seriously injured. The Georgia DOT also reported that one person had been trapped in a vehicle after the crash. The injured persons were taken to local hospitals for treatment, where their current conditions are not known. They have not been identified. No fatalities were reported.

Police, emergency responders, and accident investigators were called to the scene, and officials ended up shutting down all westbound lanes of I-285. Traffic was able to move again around 10:30 a.m. that day, but as of 11:15 a.m., the closure was still having an effect on traffic in the area of the interstate between Interstate 675 and Jonesboro Road.

The accident is still under investigation at this time. The cause of the crash and the nature of the collision have not yet been reported.
