2-Year-Old Child in Critical Condition After DUI Wreck in Knoxville, Tennessee

February 21, 2019

KNOXVILLE, TN. – A 2-year-old child is in critical condition after a DUI wreck in Knoxville, Tennessee, according to an online news report posted by knoxnews.com. The wreck happened while police officers were on the scene of another alcohol-related vehicle accident in Knoxville.*

On the morning of February 15, the Knoxville Police Department responded to the scene of a single-vehicle accident on Morrell Road. The accident happened around midnight, when a Ford Ranger left the roadway near Devonshire Drive, traveled up an embankment, and rolled over several times. Police officers arrived to find that the driver of the Ford had been ejected.

The driver of the Ford died at the scene. Officers said he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. Preliminary investigation caused police to believe the man was under the influence of alcohol. His name has not been released.

While police were on the scene of this accident, another alcohol-related wreck happened in Knoxville. This accident happened on Interstate 40 West. A Pontiac Grand Am swerved across several lanes of the interstate, left the roadway, and crashed into some trees near the exit to Strawberry Plains Pike.

Police officers responding to this accident discovered that the three occupants of the Pontiac, including a 2-year-old child, had been ejected. Officers said the child was not properly restrained. Emergency crews took the child to UT Medical Center, and reports said he or she was in critical condition.

The driver of the Pontiac, a 26-year-old man from Knoxville, and a passenger in the front seat, 26-year-old Female from Knoxville, were also injured, but their injuries were considered not life-threatening. Police believe Foust was under the influence of alcohol during this crash, and charges are pending against him.
