Bicyclist Hit, Killed by Vehicle in Fayetteville, North Carolina
FAYETTEVILLE, NC. – According to a news report published online by cbs17.com, a bicyclist was hit and killed by a vehicle in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Neither the bicyclist nor the driver of the vehicle has currently been identified. Authorities have not reported information on the cause of the accident.*
The crash occurred in the evening hours of February 13 on Rim Road in Fayetteville. Sometime before 6:30 p.m., a man was riding a bicycle on Rim Road, between Raeford Road and Maggie Circle, when a vehicle hit him.
It is not clear at this time how the accident happened. The Fayetteville Police Department responded to the accident, and officers did not report any potential causes or any circumstances that might have contributed to the crash. Reports did not say what direction the bicyclist was traveling or what direction the vehicle was traveling.
The bicyclist was critically injured the in the collision, and responding officials pronounced him dead at the scene. The man has not yet been identified in public reports.
It does not appear that the driver of the vehicle was injured in the crash. The driver has also not been identified. Reports only indicate that the driver is a woman.
Officials closed Rim Road between Raeford Road and Maggie Circle after the collision to allow crews to investigate and clear the accident site. It is not clear how long the roadway remained closed, but reports said it reopened around 6:30 p.m. that day.
The Fayetteville Police Department is still conducting its investigation into the accident, and officers have not released additional information. It is not clear if the vehicle driver will be charged.
