Man Arrested for Fatal Pedestrian Hit-and-Run in Pensacola, Florida
PENSACOLA, FL. – According to a news report posted online by weartv.com, a man has been arrested in connection with a fatal pedestrian hit-and-run collision that occurred in Pensacola, Florida. The suspect has been identified, but authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim.*
A pedestrian was attempting to cross East Nine Mile Road in Pensacola, near Plainfield Avenue and Dodge’s gas station. As the pedestrian was walking in the roadway, a westbound Chevrolet Silverado hit the victim. The Chevy then continued traveling west and did not stop.
The pedestrian was fatally injured and pronounced deceased by first responders who arrived at the scene. Officials have not yet released the name of the victim or any other identifying information. It is not clear if the victim’s family has been notified.
After the accident, a witness or tipster contacted Florida Highway Patrol and provided information about the Chevy and the owner of the Chevy. It appears the person driving the Chevy at the time of the collision was not the registered owner of the vehicle. The owner then provided investigators the name of the person who had been driving the Chevy.
About six hours after the crash occurred, authorities arrested a man in connection with the incident. The man has been charged with leaving the scene of a fatal crash and driving with a suspended license.
Court records indicate the driver has previously been charged with careless driving, speeding, running a red light, possession of methamphetamines and marijuana with intent to sell, and possession of drug equipment.
