Drunk Driver Charged with Vehicular Homicide After Norcross, Georgia, Wreck
NORCROSS, GA. – A drunk driver was charged with vehicular homicide after a vehicle wreck in Norcross, Georgia, according to an online news story reported by gwinnettdailypost.com. The accident, which occurred on Beaver Ruin Road, resulted in the death of one person and injuries to two other people.*
At approximately 9:30 p.m., a Lincoln Navigator was traveling on Beaver Ruin Road in unincorporated Norcross. Near the intersection with Buford Highway, the Lincoln traveled through the center turn lane in the roadway and entered the opposite lane of travel. The Lincoln then collided head-on with a Nissan sedan that was headed the opposite direction.
After impact with the Lincoln, the Nissan sedan was rear-ended by a Toyota pickup truck. It is not yet clear why the driver of the Lincoln crossed all the way into the opposite lane. However, during the investigation at the scene, Georgia State Patrol Troopers concluded that the Lincoln driver was impaired.
The crash resulted in injuries to the driver of the Nissan and two occupants in the Toyota. The driver of the Nissan, Erica Everett (age and city not reported), sustained life-threatening injuries and did not survive. The unidentified driver and passenger in the Toyota sustained minor injuries, and both were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Authorities arrested the Lincoln driver at the scene. She has been identified as 54-year-old Ms. Gatesbusch, of Stone Mountain, Georgia. Gatesbusch was reportedly not injured in the wreck, and Troopers transported her directly to the Gwinnett County Jail.
She remains in jail on charges of homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence of drugs, driving under the influence of alcohol, and improper lane change. Her bond has been set at $10,306.
