One Killed, Two Injured in Head-On Collision in Barnwell County, South Carolina

BARNWELL COUNTY, SC. – One person was killed, and two people were injured in a head-on vehicle collision in Barnwell County, South Carolina, according to a news report posted online at The deceased victim has been identified by officials.* 

Authorities do not yet know what caused the accident. At approximately 3:20 p.m., a 2008 Honda (model not reported) was traveling northbound on South Carolina Highway 125 in Barnwell County. For reasons not yet known, the driver of the Honda traveled over the centerline of the highway and into the southbound lane.

The Honda then hit a southbound vehicle head-on. The make and model of the southbound vehicle were not reported. Authorities have not reported on any reasons why the Honda driver left her lane of travel.

First responders at the scene transported the Honda driver to AU Medical Center. She had sustained severe injuries in the wreck. Officials later pronounced her deceased at the hospital. South Carolina Highway Patrol reported that she was not wearing a seat belt during the crash, but Troopers did not note if a seat belt would have changed the outcome for her. The Honda driver was identified as 53-year-old Gloria Williams (city of residence not reported). 

Emergency responders also transported one passenger in the Honda to a local hospital. The passenger reportedly sustained serious injuries. Officials did not release his or her name, and the current condition of the passenger was not reported. Troopers noted that the Honda passenger was also not wearing a seat belt. 

The driver of the southbound vehicle was also injured in the wreck, though it is not clear how severely. First responders took him or her to a nearby hospital, as well, for treatment. His or her name was not released.
