Bicyclist Seriously Injured in Vehicle Crash in Northwest Miami-Dade, Florida
NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FL. – According to an online news story published by wsvn.com, a bicyclist was seriously injured in a vehicle crash in Northwest Miami-Dade, Florida. The victim has not been identified at this time. Reports initially indicated it was a hit-and-run collision, but now it appears the driver stayed at the scene.*
The crash happened near the area of Northwest 138th Street and 57th Avenue in Northwest Miami-Dade. At approximately 4 p.m., a cyclist was riding near the intersection, when a vehicle struck the bicycle. During the impact, the cyclist was ejected from the bike and flew into the air.
The bicyclist was seriously injured in the accident, and emergency crews responding to the scene called for a medical helicopter. The cyclist was then airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital. Reports indicated he or she had multiple fractures. Officials have not released the name of the cyclist, and they have not reported as to his or her current medical condition.
Authorities did not identify the driver of the vehicle involved, nor did they released information about the vehicle, including the make and model. It is not clear how the crash happened. Reports did not provide any information about the events leading to the collision. Initially, reports said the collision was a hit-and-run accident, but it does appear now that the driver stayed at the scene and talked to police.
Parts of Northwest 57th Avenue were closed after the accident, around the area of Gratigny Parkway. Drivers were encouraged to avoid the area if possible. Florida Highway Patrol and Miami-Dade Police are investigating.
