Multi-Vehicle Accident Blocks Traffic in Cobb County Georgia

COBB COUNTY, GA. – According to a news report posted online at a multi-vehicle accident blocked traffic in Cobb County, Georgia. Little information has been reported about the wreck at this time.*

The accident happened sometime before 11 a.m. on February 5. At least three vehicles were involved in a collision on Interstate 285 East in Cobb County. Descriptions of the vehicles were not released. It is not yet clear how the accident occurred, and the nature of the crash was not reported.

Officials said the collision resulted in injuries, but they did not report how many people were injured or the extent of injuries sustained. Traffic was blocked from I-285 ramp to Interstate 75 North, causing delays in the area. The wreck was cleared around 11 a.m., according to reports. 

Accident information gathered by the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety shows that a large number of traffic crashes happen every year in Cobb County, and the accident rate has been on the rise. Between 2012 and 2016, traffic collisions and crashes causing injury and death climbed significantly. 

In 2012, almost 11,800 traffic crashes happened in Cobb County, and those crashes resulted in almost 2,900 injuries and 47 fatalities. In 2016, traffic crashes were almost triple the numbers in 2012. A total of 34,985 vehicle accidents occurred in Cobb County in 2016, leading to nearly 8,500 injuries, and 59 deaths. 

In 2012 and in 2016, more than 50 percent of the deadly traffic accidents in Cobb County involved excessive speeding or driver impairment.
