Woman Killed, Infant Injured in Tractor-Trailer Crash in Spartanburg County, SC
SPARTANBURG COUNTY, SC. – According to an online news story reported by gaffneyledger.com, a woman was killed, and an infant was injured February 1 in a tractor-trailer crash in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. Three other people were also injured in the collision.*
The crash occurred on the morning of February 1 on Interstate 85 Business in Spartanburg County. At approximately 8:30 a.m., a 2003 Kia minivan and a 2013 Toyota minivan were traveling north on I-85 Business. Near mile marker 2, the two vans were stopped in traffic, when a 2016 Freightliner tractor-trailer crashed into them from behind.
Four people were inside the Kia van, including a 4-month-old child. The driver of the Kia, one adult passenger, and the infant were all injured, and emergency crews took them to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center for treatment. Their names have not been released, and their current medical conditions are not known.
Another adult passenger in the Kia van was trapped in the vehicle, and emergency crews had to extricate her. She tragically did not survive her injuries and was pronounced deceased approximately two hours after the wreck. Officials have identified her as 24-year-old Jessica Dawn Jones, of Gaffney, South Carolina.
The driver of the Toyota van was injured and transported to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. She has been identified as a woman from Greenville, South Carolina. Her current condition has not been reported.
It does not appear the driver of the tractor-trailer, 39-year-old Mr. Burdette, of Iva, South Carolina, was injured. Burdette was charged with driving too fast for conditions. South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating.
