Car Crashes into Coffee Shop in Atlanta, Georgia
ATLANTA, GA. – According to an online news story posted to atlanta.eater.com, a car crashed into a coffee shop in Atlanta, Georgia. It is not clear if anyone was injured in the wreck. The shop was damaged but is still open at this time.*
The accident happened at the Hodgepodge Coffeehouse and Gallery on Atlanta’s Moreland Avenue. A car traveling on Moreland Avenue swerved to avoid hitting another vehicle. The other vehicle had pulled out in front of the first vehicle, and after swerving, the first vehicle drove through the coffee shop parking lot and crashed into the side of the coffee shop’s building.
Photos from the scene show a red vehicle halfway inside the building with debris all around the vehicle. Hodgepodge owner Krystle Rodriguez said she arrived at the scene about 10 minutes after it occurred. It is not clear what time the crash happened, but Rodriguez says the shop was closed for the day when it took place. No one was inside or outside of the shop at the time.
It is not clear whether the driver of the vehicle or anyone else in the vehicle was injured. Reports did not say whether speed was a factor in the collision.
Rodriguez said despite the extensive damage, the building is still structurally sound. For now, tarps and a board are closing off the hole in the building, and the shop is staying open.
“Once build-out starts, we may need to close, but we won’t know until we get there,” Rodriguez said. “The best way to help us is to keep coming in! We’re not quite sure what navigating all of this is going to look like, but community support will make it a whole lot easier.”
