Converted School Bus Overturns in Savannah, Georgia
SAVANNAH, GA. – According to an online news report posted to wtoc.com, a converted school bus overturned on a street in Savannah, Georgia, on February 4. The bus was being used as an RV camper and crashed in the middle of Bay Street. The driver of the bus was arrested, and a passenger fled the scene.*
At approximately 8:30 a.m., a school bus that had been turned into an RV home was traveling east on Bay Street in Savannah. At Bull Street, a vehicle turned in front of the bus or changed into the bus’s lane, and the bus driver swerved to avoid an accident. The bus then turned onto its side and crashed in the middle of Bay Street, blocking both eastbound lanes.
Three people were inside the bus at the time, and one of them ran away from the scene on foot. This person has not been identified and is still missing. One person in the bus was injured, but it is not clear if this was the driver or the other passenger. The person’s injuries were minor, and he or she was treated at the scene.
The driver of the bus, who has not been identified, was arrested at the scene. It is not clear what charges have been filed against the driver. A witness at the scene said she saw the bus driving at a high rate of speed. No information was reported about the other vehicle or the driver of that vehicle.
The Savannah Police Department, Savannah Fire Rescue, and Chatham County EMS responded to the scene. No further information has been reported about the accident at this time.
