Driver Charged for Fatal Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident in Duluth, Georgia

DULUTH, GA. – An online news story by gwinnettdailypost.com reports that a driver has been criminally charged for a fatal hit-and-run pedestrian accident that occurred in Duluth, Georgia. The driver has been identified, but police are having difficulty identifying the victim of the crash.* 

A pedestrian was walking in Duluth in the area of Peachtree Industrial Boulevard and Howell Ferry Road. A vehicle traveling in the area hit the pedestrian then left the scene. 

It is not clear if the pedestrian was crossing the roadway at the time or was walking on the side of the roadway. The Duluth Police department responded to the scene, and officers obtained surveillance footage showing the vehicle in question. 

“On Tuesday [February 5], officers with [the Accident Investigation Unit] followed up on leads throughout the investigation, and were able to locate the suspect and the vehicle used during the crash,” said Ted Sadowski, spokesperson for the Duluth Police Department. “Officers with A.I.U. questioned the suspect regarding the damage to the vehicle, and during questioning, the suspect admitted to striking the pedestrian.” 

The vehicle driver has been identified as Damian Arroyo Burgos (age and city not reported). Burgos has been charged with a litany of crimes, including vehicular homicide, hit-and-run, failure to report an accident resulting in death, driving too fast for conditions, and driving without a license.

Police have not yet been able to determine the identity of the victim. Officers report he was a white male in his 40s or 50s and was about 5 feet 9 inches tall with light brown hair. He was wearing a gray hoodie and jeans at the time of the accident. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Duluth Police Department.
