Authorities Report Serious Wreck in Horry County, South Carolina

February 10, 2019

HORRY COUNTY, SC. – As reported online by wmbfnews.com, on February 5, authorities reported a serious vehicle wreck in Horry County, South Carolina. The accident happened on South Carolina Highway 544, but little information about the circumstances of the crash has been reported at this time.*

At about 3:50 p.m. on February 5, Troopers with South Carolina Highway Patrol received a call about a vehicle wreck at Highway 544 and West Cox Ferry Road in Horry County. They responded to the scene and discovered at least one crashed vehicle that had turned into its side. It is not clear whether any additional vehicles were involved in the crash or if this was a single-vehicle wreck.

In a photo from the scene of the crash, a red SUV can be seen turned on its side, resting in the shoulder of the road. The photo shows the SUV’s roof is missing, but authorities did not report whether the driver or passenger in the SUV needed to be cut from the vehicle. It is not clear how many people were riding in the SUV.

At least one person was injured in the accident. Authorities indicated generally that the wreck resulted in injuries, though no information was reported about the number of injured persons or the extent of injuries. Reports did not say whether anyone required medical transport to a hospital.

Officials closed down the accident scene to provide investigators access and to allow for wreckage to be cleared from the scene. During this time, traffic was delayed where West Cox Ferry Road intersects with Highway 544. The accident investigation is still ongoing, and South Carolina Highway Patrol has not yet released additional details regarding the wreck.
