Motorcycle Crashes into Car on U.S. Highway 19 in Clearwater, Florida
CLEARWATER, FL. – A motorcycle crashed into a car in Clearwater, Florida, according to an online news story published at tbreporter.com. The motorcyclist was reportedly speeding and ran into a car that was trying to make a left-hand turn on U.S. Highway 19.*
The motorcycle accident occurred on U.S. Highway 19 in Clearwater. At about 8:55 p.m., a 2017 Suzuki motorcycle was traveling north in a group of motorcycles on U.S. 19. The Suzuki rode past two Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies on the highway at a high rate of speed.
Deputies were about to turn on their lights and pull the motorcyclist over, when he proceeded north and crashed into a 2003 Kia Optima that was making a left-hand turn from U.S. 19 to Winding Creek Boulevard. Deputies said the crash occurred before they could stop the motorcyclist.
The motorcyclist, identified as 21-year-old Ryan Decubellis, of New Port Richey, Florida, was ejected from the bike and suffered serious injuries. Emergency responders took him to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg for treatment. Authorities said he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. His current condition is not known.
The driver of the Kia, 54-year-old Scott Colletti, of Clearwater, sustained minor injuries. An ambulance crew took him to Mease Countryside Hospital for treatment in stable condition.
Authorities have said speed had played a role in the crash, and charges were pending against Decubellis. No additional information has been reported about the crash at this time.
