Car Crashes into Georgia State Patrol Vehicle in Downtown Atlanta, Georgia

February 05, 2019

ATLANTA, GA. – According to an online news report from fox5atlanta.com, a car crashed into a Georgia State Patrol vehicle January 31 in downtown Atlanta, Georgia. The cause of the accident is not yet known. One person was reportedly injured in the crash, but the Trooper inside the patrol vehicle was thankfully not injured.*

The crash happened on January 31, but reports did not say exactly what time. Sometime that morning, a Georgia State Patrol Trooper was escorting a street sweeper on the Downtown Connector in Atlanta. The Trooper was in a patrol vehicle at the time. Near the area of Williams Street, a passing vehicle somehow crashed into the back of the patrol vehicle.

It is not clear at this time what caused the driver of the other vehicle to crash into the Trooper. Reports did not say whether the Trooper’s vehicle or the street sweeper had flashing lights running. The make and model of the other vehicle was not included in reports.

Photos from the scene show the patrol vehicle with extensive damage to the back left side. The edge of another vehicle is barely pictured. It appears this vehicle might be a Jeep or similar SUV with damage to the front driver’s side.

The Trooper has not been identified, and reports stated that he or she was not injured in the wreck. However, one person was injured in the wreck, reports say, and this person received emergency medical transport to a nearby hospital. It is not clear if this person was the driver or passenger in the vehicle that hit the Trooper. No one from this vehicle has been identified.

Authorities are still investigating the collision, and no additional information is available at this time.
