Single-Vehicle Accident in North Carolina Leaves One Dead, One Injured

HICKORY, NC. – A single-vehicle accident January 30 in Hickory, North Carolina, left one person dead and another injured, according to an online news report published at Few details about the crash have been reported at this time, and the victims’ names have not been released.* 

The crash happened in the early morning hours of January 30 on Kool Park Road in Hickory. At approximately 5 a.m., a vehicle traveling on Kool Park Road somehow left the roadway. This occurred by a bridge on the road, near Clyde Campbell Elementary School. It is not yet clear what caused the driver of the vehicle to leave the road.

Photos from the scene show the vehicle likely exited the roadway at the end of a guardrail on Kool Park Road. The vehicle involved is not pictured, but emergency responders can be seen on site, looking toward a wooded area off the side of the road. The vehicle might have traveled down an embankment before coming to a rest.

Authorities have not identified any potential causes for the accident or factors they might be investigating. One occupant of the vehicle suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. This person has not been identified, and it is not clear if he or she was the driver or a passenger. 

A second person in the vehicle was injured. This person has also not been identified, and the extent of his or her injuries was not reported. 

Following the accident, Kool Park Road was closed down for crews to investigate and clear the scene. People traveling to and from the elementary school were told to expect delays. Authorities are still investigating and have not yet released further information.
