ORANGE COUNTY, FL. – An online news story from orlandosentinel.com reports that a bicyclist was killed January 29 in a vehicle collision in Orange County, Florida. Two motor vehicles were involved in the crash, in addition to the bicycle. The drivers of the vehicles have been identified, while the bicyclist has not.*
The crash occurred on the morning of January 29 on State Road 520 in Orange County. At approximately 10:15 a.m., an eastbound Nissan SUV observed a bicyclist in the shoulder of State Road 520. The Nissan driver changed from the right lane to the left lane to allow the bicyclist more room.

The bicyclist sustained severe injuries, and emergency crews responding to the scene transported him to AdventHealth East Orlando. He later died of his injuries at the hospital. Officials have not yet released the bicyclist’s name, age, or city of residence. The dog traveling with him reportedly survived the accident.
The driver of the Nissan has been identified as 42-year-old Brian Merritt, of Apopka, Florida. Merritt was not injured in the crash. The driver of the Toyota has been identified as 26-year-old Joshua Knight, of Orlando, Florida. Knight sustained minor injuries, but it is not clear if he required medical treatment beyond the scene.
