Burke County, GA, Worker Killed in Vehicle Crash

BURKE COUNTY, GA. – A in Burke County, Georgia, worker was killed in a vehicle crash on January 30, according to an online news report published at The cause of the collision is not yet known, but the worker has been identified by officials.* 

At about 7:30 a.m. on January 30, Burke County Road and Bridges Department employee William Procter (age not reported) was driving a department truck southbound on Highway 24. Another employee was also riding in the truck. Procter tried to make a left-hand turn from Highway 24 onto Brown Mobley Road, when an oncoming vehicle crashed into the truck. 

Procter suffered critical injuries, and an ambulance crew took him to Burke Medical Center for emergency care. Officials later pronounced Procter deceased at the hospital. 

The employee passenger in the truck sustained unknown injuries, and emergency responders also took him or her to a local hospital. This employee has not been identified. Officials said he or she is in stable condition, and his or her injuries were not life-threatening. 

Two occupants were inside the other vehicle, including an adult driver and a child passenger. Authorities said neither was injured in the crash. 

Burke County has not issued a public statement regarding the accident. Georgia State Patrol is still in the process of investigating the wreck. Troopers have not yet identified a cause for the crash. It is not clear if Procter did not see the oncoming vehicle or if other circumstances caused the crash. No further information has been released to the media at this time.
