Tractor-Trailer Crashes on Highway 32 in Irwin County, Georgia

IRWIN COUNTY, GA. – According to an online news story reported at, a tractor-trailer crashed on Georgia Highway 32 in Irwin County on January 29. Officials had to shut down traffic on a portion of the highway due to a fire that ignited after the collision. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.* 

The crash happened on the afternoon of January 29 on Highway 32 in Irwin County. At approximately 3:30 p.m., a tractor-trailer was traveling west on Highway 32 when it somehow overturned. It is not clear what caused the truck to roll over on the highway. Authorities did not say whether the driver lost control or whether other factors might have caused the collision. 

After the tractor-trailer overturned, it caught on fire. The Irwin County Sheriff’s Office, the Irwin County Fire Department, Irwin EMS, and emergency responders from Ben Hill and Turner County responded to the scene. Hazmat workers from Douglas County also came to the scene to assist in managing the fire. 

The driver of the tractor-trailer has not been identified, and it is not clear if he or she was injured in the wreck. Reports did not name the carrier or company that owned the truck or employed the driver. It does not appear that any other vehicles or people were involved in the accident. 

The wreck and resulting fire caused all of westbound Highway 32 to be closed down while crews investigated, extinguished the fire, and cleared the scene. Officials were posted in Irwinville, Georgia, to detour traffic during this time on. Westbound traffic was detoured from Highway 32 to Irwinville Highway.
