County Employee Killed in Vehicle Collision in Burke County, Georgia

BURKE COUNTY, GA. – A county employee was killed January 30 in a vehicle collision in Burke County, Georgia, according to an online news story reported at The employee worked for the Burke County Road and Bridges Department and was involved in a wreck on a local highway.* 

The crash occurred in the morning on January 30 on Highway 24 in Burke County. At approximately 7:40 a.m., a Burke County employee was driving a Road and Bridges Department work truck south on Highway 24. At the intersection with Brown Mobley Road, the employee attempted to turn left, and another vehicle crashed into the truck. 

The make and model of the other vehicle were not reported. It is not clear what caused the accident. Authorities did not say whether the employee failed to yield or if other factors contributed to the accident. 

The employee driving the work truck was severely injured, and emergency responders took him to Burke Medical Center for treatment. He later died of his injuries at the hospital. Officials have identified him as William Procter. Procter’s age was not reported. 

A second employee was inside the truck with Procter at the time of the crash, and this person was also injured. Authorities did not identify this person but said his or her injuries were not life-threatening. It is not clear if he or she required medical transport away from the scene. 

The driver of the second vehicle and a child passenger in that vehicle were reportedly not injured in the wreck. They have not been identified. 

Georgia State Patrol is still investigating the accident, and Troopers have not released further information at this time.
