Passenger Killed, Driver Injured in Single-Car Wreck in Wilson, NC

February 02, 2019

WILSON, NC. – A passenger was killed and a driver injured in a single-car wreck that occurred January 28 in Wilson, North Carolina, according to an online news story reported at wilsontimes.com. The deceased victim has not been identified, and the cause of the accident has not yet been determined.*

The crash occurred at about 11:30 a.m. on January 28. A Mercury Marquis was traveling northwest on Bridgersville Road in Wilson. At the Cattail Swamp Bridge near Pender Crossroads, the Mercury struck a guardrail on the right side. North Carolina Highway Patrol responded to the scene and said that speed or alcohol could have been factors in the wreck. Troopers found an open container of alcohol in the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Jordan Pittman, of Pinetops, North Carolina, was injured in the wreck, and emergency responders took him to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, North Carolina, for treatment. Pittman’s age was not reported, and his current medical condition is not known.

A passenger in the vehicle sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene of the accident. Officials have not yet identified this person, as next-of-kin still need to be notified about the wreck.

A resident who lives right by the accident site, Bobby Proctor, heard the crash and ran over to the vehicle to check on the occupants. He said he knew immediately that the passenger had not survived, and he called 911. He talked with Pittman at the scene while they waited for emergency response, and he said Pittman appeared disoriented and seriously injured.

North Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident and has not released additional information.
