Two Men Injured in Garbage Truck Collision in Davidson County, North Carolina

DAVIDSON COUNTY, NC. – Two men were injured in a garbage truck collision January 25 in Davidson County, North Carolina, according to an online news story reported by The two men have been identified, and both have been cited in connection with the wreck.*

The accident occurred on the afternoon of January 25 on Bethesda Road in Davidson County. A North Davidson Garbage Services truck was traveling on Bethesda Road near Welcome, North Carolina. The truck exited the right side of the roadway between Emily Lane and Tall Pines Road. Upon leaving the road, the truck traveled down an embankment and turned onto its side in a small body of water.

The driver of the truck was trapped inside after the collision, and emergency responders had to free him from the vehicle. He was seriously injured, and an ambulance crew transported him to a local hospital for treatment. Officials have identified him as 49-year-old Edward Vanlear, of Lexington, North Carolina. He is still in critical condition, according to reports. 

A passenger in the truck was also injured and taken to an area hospital. The extent of his injuries and current condition are not known. Officials identified him as 28-year-old Jason Rodriguez, of Lexington. 

Only the garbage truck was involved in the wreck, and North Carolina Highway Patrol indicated that driver inattention caused the crash. Authorities also said neither man was wearing a seat belt at the time. Vanlear has been charged with failure to maintain a lane and a seat belt violation, and Rodriguez was charged with a seat belt violation. No further information has been reported.
