Pedestrian Killed in Vehicle Collision in Pinellas County, Florida

PINELLAS COUNTY, FL. – As reported online by a news story from, a pedestrian was killed January 25 in a vehicle collision in Pinellas County, Florida. The sheriff’s office says the pedestrian, who was from the United Kingdom, was not walking inside a crosswalk at the time of the accident. His name has not been released.* 

The accident occurred in the late evening hours of January 25 on Gulf Boulevard in North Redington Beach, Pinellas County, Florida. At about 11:20 p.m., a pedestrian was attempting to cross the street in the 17000 block of the roadway. A Dodge Dart then struck the man outside the address of 17120 Gulf Boulevard.

It is not clear what direction the Dodge was traveling at the time. Deputies with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said the pedestrian was not crossing the street in a designated crosswalk. They did not provide an official cause of the accident but said they did not believe that speed or alcohol were factors in the collision.

The pedestrian suffered severe injuries, and emergency responders transported him to Bayfront Hospital. He did not survive his injuries, and officials pronounced him deceased at the hospital. He has been preliminarily identified as a 61-year-old man from the United Kingdom. His name has not been released, as authorities are still trying to contact next-of-kin. 

The driver of the Dodge was described as a man from Pinellas Park but was not otherwise identified. The driver stayed at the scene and talked to investigators. It is not clear at this time whether he will be cited or charged. 

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Major Accident Investigation Team is handling the accident investigation, and deputies have not provided additional information to the public.
