February 03, 2019

LIMESTONE COUNTY, AL. – An online news story from reports that a single-vehicle crash January 27 in Limestone County, Alabama, left one person dead and another injured. Few details about the accident have been reported at this time. Neither person has been identified.*

The accident happened in the early morning on January 27 where Copeland Road and Turner Lane intersect in Limestone County. At approximately 6:45 a.m., a vehicle that was traveling near the intersection somehow ran off the roadway and traveled 12 feet down an embankment. The vehicle then crashed into several trees.

It is not clear what direction the vehicle was traveling before the crash or how the vehicle ended up leaving the roadway. Authorities did not indicate any possible causes for the crash or circumstances they might be investigating as contributors to the accident. No other vehicles were involved.

After impact, the vehicle caught on fire. The driver of the vehicle suffered burn injuries, and a medical helicopter flew her to UAB Hospital, according to East Limestone Fire Chief Joey Boyd. She later died of her injuries at the hospital. Officials have identified her as a 24-year-old woman. Her name and residence have not been released.

A passenger in the vehicle also sustained injuries, and emergency crews transported her to Athens-Limestone Hospital, Boyd said. It appears this transport was via ambulance. The passenger has been identified as a 19-year-old woman. Her name and current medical condition have not been reported.

The accident investigation is ongoing, and no additional information has been reported at this time.
