Tanker Truck Overturns, Spills Gasoline onto Roadway in LaGrange, Georgia

LAGRANGE, GA. – According to an online news story published at, a tanker truck hauling gasoline overturned on a road in LaGrange, Georgia, on January 29. After the collision, the truck spilled gasoline onto the roadway, which caused the road to be closed for numerous hours.* 

The accident occurred in the early morning hours on January 29 on Whitesville Road in LaGrange. At approximately 1 a.m., a tanker truck loaded with gasoline was traveling on Whitesville Road and ran off the roadway for unknown reasons. The LaGrange Fire Department reported that the truck drove into a ditch and overturned. 

It is not clear what caused the driver of the truck to lose control and travel into the ditch. Officials did not provide any information about the cause of the accident or any circumstances that might have contributed to the crash. 

The tanker was carrying almost 9,000 gallons of gasoline, and a significant amount of gas spilled at the crash site after the truck flipped over. The driver of the bus, who was not identified, was injured and transported to WellStar West Georgia Medical Center. Officials said the driver’s injuries were not life-threatening, and, thankfully, no one else was seriously injured in the wreck. 

The collision caused delays for people traveling to and from Whitesville Elementary School by way of Whitesville Road. Some school buses were not able to leave the school parking lot because of the crash. About seven hours after the collision, cleanup was still underway. Fire officials said they were taking extra care to make sure none of the gas ignited, including spraying a protective layer of foam at the site.
