8-Year-Old Boy Killed in UTV Accident in Grady County, Georgia

February 03, 2019

GRADY COUNTY, GA. – According to an online news report published at timesenterprise.com, an 8-year-old boy was killed January 27 in an utility task vehicle accident in Grady County, Georgia. The boy was riding the UTV alone and was not wearing a safety belt.*

The accident occurred shortly before 1 p.m. on Sunday, January 27. An 8-year-old boy was riding a Kubota RTV 900 on the lawn of his home on Mimosa Lane in Grady County. The boy was reportedly unsupervised at the time and was riding the vehicle alone. He made a sharp turn to avoid hitting a tree in the yard and lost control of the UTV.

The UTV ended up hitting the tree and overturning. The boy was not wearing a safety belt and was partially ejected during the collision. He then became pinned under the UTV.

The boy’s parents were working away from the home at the time, and his grandmother was watching him. The grandmother was inside the house cooking and reportedly told the boy not to drive too fast on the UTV. She heard the vehicle’s engine rev, followed by a loud crash, and she came outside to check on the boy. She called 911 after unsuccessfully trying to move the vehicle, which weighed more than 1,000 pounds.

Emergency responders transported the boy to Grady Memorial Hospital via ambulance. The Grady County Coroner’s Office pronounced him deceased at the hospital about an hour after he arrived. The cause of death was blunt force trauma, and an autopsy will not be performed.

The boy’s name has been reported but withheld from this story for privacy reasons. No further information has been released at this time.
