Residents Urge Drivers to Slow Down After Three-Vehicle Crash in Albany, Georgia

February 02, 2019

ALBANY, GA. – Residents of Albany, Georgia, are urging drivers to slow down after three vehicles collided at a city intersection on January 28, according to a news story online at walb.com. The wreck caused injuries to three people, and some neighbors in the area say they are seeing too many accidents caused by people speeding and not paying attention.*

On the afternoon of January 28, a truck collided with a van at the intersection of 11th Avenue and Palmyra Road in Albany. The van then collided with a car, making the accident a three-vehicle wreck. Based on reports from Albany Police, it appears the driver of the truck did not properly stop at the intersection’s stop sign.

Residents in the area say this a common problem; Drivers are driving too fast, they say, and not paying attention to road signs and conditions.

“I’ve been here five years, and this is the third accident that has happened,” said one person who lives on 11th Avenue and wished to remain anonymous. “But this is the accident that was the most damaging.”

Three people involved the wreck sustained injuries, including 72-year-old Betty Jean Frazier, whom responders found lying in the roadway after the crash. The nature of Frazier’s injuries, and her current medical condition have not been reported. The other victims have not been identified.

The anonymous resident wanted to send a message to drivers who travel through the neighborhood and the rest of the city’s roadways: “Slow down! Pay attention!”

Another person who lives in the area, Charlie Peters, said he would like the city to put a stoplight at the intersection, rather than a stop sign. He thinks the light would reduce crashes because people ignore the existing stop sign.
