Vehicle Hits Clayton County, GA, Police Officer at Scene of Pedestrian Accident

January 29, 2019

CLAYTON COUNTY, GA. – A vehicle hit a Clayton County police officer on January 28 at the scene of a deadly pedestrian accident in Clayton County, Georgia, according to an online news report posted at ajc.com. The officer, who has not been identified, was at the scene of the pedestrian accident when he was struck by a passing vehicle.*

Sometime before 2:30 a.m. on January 28, a vehicle traveling on Interstate 75 North in Clayton County hit a pedestrian. It is not clear if the pedestrian was walking in a lane of travel or was attempting to walk across the interstate. The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. No information was reported about the vehicle involved, and the pedestrian’s and driver’s names were not released.

Clayton County Police responded to the scene, which was located near C.W. Grant Parkway, and closed down several lanes of I-75 North. A vehicle traveling northbound failed to observe the accident scene and drove through the area where officers were investigating. This vehicle then ended up hitting one of the police officers at the scene.

“During our investigation, a vehicle, not involved with the [pedestrian] accident, drove into the accident scene, striking one of our officers,” said Officer Marcena Davis, spokesperson for the Clayton County Police Department. “The officer was transported to a local hospital.”

It appears this occurred around 5:30 a.m. on January 28, several hours after the initial accident. Reports did not identify the injured officer. His injuries were said to be non-life threatening, and he is expected to recover. No information was released about the driver or the vehicle involved in the second collision.
