Pedestrian Killed in Hit-and-Run Collision in Clayton County, Georgia
CLAYTON COUNTY, GA. – According to an online news report published at wsbtv.com, a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run collision January 28 in Clayton County, Georgia. The vehicle driver left the scene and appears to still be missing. The crash shut down Highway 54 in the county for some time.*
The collision occurred sometime in the morning on January 28, but it is not clear what time. A vehicle hit a pedestrian on Highway 54 South, near Mt. Zion Road in Marrow, Clayton County, Georgia. It is not clear if the pedestrian was trying to cross the highway or was walking along the side of the highway.
The vehicle driver left the scene after the accident and did not contact authorities. Police did not release a description of the vehicle, but officers are actively looking for the driver, who appears to still be on the run. No information was released about the driver, either.
The pedestrian died at the scene. This person’s name, age, and city of residence have not been reported at this time.
Authorities closed down all of the southbound lanes of Highway 54 following the accident to allow crews to investigate and clear the scene. Traffic backed up in the area during this time, and it is not clear how long the highway remained closed. The Morrow Police Department responded to the scene and has handed the investigation over to Georgia State Patrol.
Georgia State Patrol Troopers are continuing to investigate this collision, and they have not released further information to the public at this time.
