Recent Alabama High School Graduate Killed in Car Accident

CLEBURNE COUNTY, AL. – According to an online news report published at timesdaily.com, a recent Alabama high school graduate was killed in a car accident. The accident occurred on in Cleburne County, Alabama, and the victim was a passenger in one of the vehicles involved.* 

A car that was traveling westbound on Interstate 20 in Cleburne County somehow crashed into a semi-truck. The driver of the car reportedly lost control near mile marker 211 on the interstate. It is not clear what caused the loss of control, and the driver of the car has not yet been identified. 

The passenger in the car suffered fatal injuries in the crash and died at the scene. His name was not initially released, but reports have now identified him as Gayfred “Gator” Hanohano. Hanohano was a 2017 graduate of Wilson High School and a member of the Wilson football team. Football coach Matt Poarch confirmed to reporters that police said Hanohano was the passenger killed in the wreck. 

“He was a good kid, just a straight-up guy,” said Gary Horton, principal at Wilson High School. “He’d come into my office and talk, and I just enjoyed talking with him. He was a really well-liked guy, real popular. He was unusual in that he participated in multiple sports. You don’t see that much anymore. He played football, basketball, and baseball. He was someone the younger kids could look up to.” 

Several of Hanohano’s classmates posted photos of him to social media, expressing their shock over the loss. He was reportedly studying at the University of Alabama.
