Driver Killed in Single-Vehicle Wreck in Mentone, Alabama
MENTONE, AL. – According to an online news story published to gadsdentimes.com, a 29-year-old driver was killed January 23 in a single-vehicle wreck in Mentone, Alabama. The cause of the crash is not clear at this time, but the victim has been identified by officials.*
The accident occurred in the early evening on January 23 on Alabama Highway 117. At about 5:20 p.m., a 2013 Chevrolet was traveling on Highway 117. The model of the Chevy was not reported, and it is not clear what direction the Chevy was traveling. At mile marker 3, about two miles from Mentone, the Chevy somehow left the roadway.
Upon traveling off the road, the Chevy crashed into a tree. It is not clear at this time what caused the driver of the Chevy to travel off the road. Authorities have not provided a potential cause and have not disclosed any factors that they might be investigating, like fatigue or distraction.
The driver was reportedly not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and suffered critical injuries. He did not survive, and officials pronounced him dead at the scene. He has been identified as 29-year-old Jimmy Richard Morgan, of Higdon, Alabama.
No other vehicles were involved in this collision, and it does not appear any passengers were in the Chevy when it crashed. No other injuries were reported. Alabama State Troopers responded to the scene and are still in the process of investigating the crash. No further information has been released to the public at this time.
