Two-Vehicle Crash Reported in Albany, Georgia

ALBANY, GA. – According to an online news story published at walb.com, a two-vehicle wreck occurred on January 25 in Albany, Georgia, and blocked traffic for some time. Few details have been released about the accident at this time, and no information about injuries has yet been reported.* 

The wreck occurred on the morning of January 25 at the intersection of Radium Springs Road and East Oglethorpe Boulevard in Albany. Two vehicles somehow collided near the intersection at around 7:50 a.m. that day. The makes and models of the vehicles were not reported, and no information was released about the cause or nature of the collision. It is not clear at this time if anyone was injured, and no one involved in the accident has been identified.

Emergency crews and authorities responded to the scene, and eastbound traffic was blocked on Oglethorpe Boulevard. Drivers were encouraged to find alternate routes during this time. No further information about the wreck has been reported. 

Albany is located in — and is the county seat of — Dougherty County, Georgia. According to the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, vehicle crashes in Dougherty County rose significantly between the years 2012 and 2016. In 2012, the Office of Highway Safety recorded 1,259 vehicle crashes in Dougherty County. These crashes caused 410 injuries and five fatalities. 

During the following years, total accidents and injury-causing accidents increased inside the county. By the year 2016, accident totals in Dougherty Countywere 3,746, which was nearly triple the total number of accidents in 2012. The 2016 crashes led to 956 injuries and 20 deaths.
