Georgia Pastor’s Teenage Sons Killed in Car Wreck After Leaving Church

January 28, 2019

NEWNAN, GA. – An online story from reports that a Georgia pastor’s two teenage sons were killed in a car wreck after they left church on Sunday, January 20. The boys’ vehicle traveled off a Coweta County, Georgia, roadway and struck several trees.*

At approximately 1 p.m. on January 20, 17-year-old Kahlil Royston and 16-year-old Joshua Royston left a church service at OutReach Church in Newnan, Georgia, where their father, Kevin Royston, is pastor. They were reportedly going to get haircuts and were traveling on Smokey Road in an Infiniti sedan.

Kahlil was the driver, and he appears to have lost control navigating around a curve. The Infiniti traveled off the roadway and hit a line of trees. Both boys suffered severe injuries in the crash. Joshua died at the scene, and Kahlil later died at a local hospital.

The boys’ parents and community have been grieving since the day of the crash, and they are turning to their faith to pull them through this tragedy.

“Losing two sons at one time -- It’s devastating,” Kevin Royston said. “It’s difficult for me to process as a father. If God allowed it, he’s going to give me strength to go through it. There’s always a bigger picture. I didn’t want anything to happen to my sons, but because my faith is in God and not in myself, I know God had a plan. I have to trust God.”

The pastor’s sons shared that strong faith, and Joshua was planning to also become a preacher. Kahlil was about to turn 18 in a few days and was a hardworking young man, according to his father. A service for the two boys is scheduled for January 30 at St. Smyrna Baptist Church.
