Pedestrian Struck by Vehicle Near University of Central Florida

ORANGE COUNTY, FL. – According to a news story reported online at, a vehicle struck a pedestrian January 23 near the University of Central Florida. Upon initial investigation, authorities believe the pedestrian was at fault in the collision.* 

The accident occurred in the evening on January 23 at Alafaya Trail and Corporate Boulevard, which is near the UCF campus. Florida Highway Patrol reports that 29-year-old Lindsey Rebekah Walker (city of residence not reported) was walking across the intersection at approximately 6:15 p.m. that day. Troopers said she was walking inside a designated crosswalk but was walking against the traffic signal. 

As Walker was crossing the roadway, a Honda Civic traveling on Corporate Boulevard struck her. The Honda had a green light at the intersection, according to Troopers. Walker was injured in the accident, and emergency responders transported her to Orlando Regional Medical Center for treatment. Florida Highway Patrol said her injuries were not life-threatening, and Troopers reportedly issued her a citation. 

The Honda driver was not identified and was not injured. The crash represents the second pedestrian accident to occur at this area in less than a week. 

On January 17, a vehicle struck 19-year-old Mariana Bornacelli as she was crossing the road near Alafaya Trail and University Boulevard. Reports indicate Bornacelli was not inside a crosswalk at the time. Emergency crews took her to Orlando Regional Medical Center with critical injuries. Her current medical condition is not known. 

Officials with UCF said the university was working to improve safety in this area to protect students and drivers.
