Two Teenagers Injured in Vehicle Crash in Okaloosa County, Florida

January 25, 2019

OKALOOSA COUNTY, FL. – Two teenagers were injured in a vehicle crash January 22 in Okaloosa County, Florida, according to an online news story published at wjhg.com. The accident appears to have been caused by a faulty hood latch on one of the vehicles involved. One of the teens has been identified, but the other has not.*

The accident occurred in the afternoon on January 22 on State Road 285. At about 2:30 p.m., a truck was traveling south on State Road 285 in Okaloosa County. Near mile marker 10, the truck experienced an issue with its hood latch. It appears the latch was not working properly, and the hood might have flown up and obstructed the truck driver’s view.

The truck then crossed the centerline of the roadway and into the northbound lane, where it crashed into a northbound car. Upon impact, the car spun and rolled onto its side.

Two people inside the car were injured. The driver, 19-year-old Tabitha Chestnut (city not reported) sustained minor injuries. It is not clear if she was transported anywhere beyond the scene for treatment. The passenger in the car, a 14-year-old male, was seriously injured. Emergency crews took him to a local hospital for treatment, and his current condition is not known. His name has not been released.

It does not appear the driver of the truck, 43-year-old Christine Kline (city not reported), was injured. Authorities cited Kline with failure to maintain a lane of travel and operation of a motor vehicle with unsafe equipment. No additional information has been reported at this time.
