Man Struck, Killed by Vehicle in Tuscaloosa, Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, AL. – A man was struck and killed by a vehicle January 22 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, according to an online news story reported at wvtm13.com. Little information about the accident has been released at this time. The victim was not initially identified, but authorities have now released his name.*

The accident occurred in the early morning hours of January 22 on Highway 69 in Tuscaloosa. At approximately 4:45 a.m., a vehicle traveling north on Highway 69 hit a pedestrian in the area of Bear Creek Road. The make and model of the vehicle were not included in reports. It is not clear whether the pedestrian was walking on the side of the highway or in a lane of travel or whether he was trying to cross the highway.

The pedestrian sustained critical injuries, and officials pronounced him deceased at the scene. Initially, authorities did not identify the victim, but they have now reported that he was 57-year-old Anthony Carl Peoples, of Tuscaloosa. Police did not provide a reason why Peoples was walking on the highway at the time of the accident. 

Authorities have still not identified the driver of the vehicle. Police did not report on a cause for the crash or any potential factors they might be investigating. They also did not say whether the vehicle driver would likely be charged in connection with the accident. The collision is still under investigation. 

Following the accident, all northbound traffic on Highway 69 was diverted to eastbound and westbound Bear Creek Road. No further information has been reported at this time.
