Pedestrian Killed After Hit by Vehicle in Etowah County, Alabama

ETOWAH COUNTY, AL. – According to an online news story posted at al.com, a pedestrian was killed January 22 after being hit by a vehicle in Etowah County, Alabama. The collision occurred on Interstate 59. The circumstances of the accident are not yet clear, but officials have released the name of the victim.* 

At approximately 3:15 a.m. on January 22, a 1994 Peterbilt semi-truck was traveling on Interstate 59 in Etowah County. At some point along the interstate, the semi-truck hit a pedestrian in the roadway. Reports did not say what direction the semi-truck was traveling or where on the interstate the collision occurred. No mile marker or exit number was provided, though reports indicated the accident occurred a few miles outside of Attalla, Alabama. 

It is not yet clear why the pedestrian was walking on the interstate, and reports did not say whether he was walking in a travel lane or was attempting to cross the road. The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Authorities identified him as 28-year-old Marius M. Hillius, of Fayetteville, Georgia. 

Alabama State Troopers have not identified the driver of the semi-truck and have not said whether the truck was affiliated with a commercial carrier. The cause for the accident is still not known, and Troopers did not indicate whether the driver would be cited or if he or she could potentially face charges for the accident.

The collision is still under investigation by Alabama State Troopers, and no further information has been released to the media at this time.
