Georgia State Patrol Trooper Injured in Accident in Camilla, Georgia

January 26, 2019

CAMILLA, GA. – A Georgia State Patrol Trooper was injured January 22 in a vehicle accident in Camilla, Georgia, according to an online news report published to walb.com. The accident occurred on Highway 300, and it appears the driver of the other vehicle was at fault, though the crash is still under investigation.*

The accident happened in the morning on January 22 on Highway 300 outside of Camilla. Around 7:15 a.m., Georgia State Patrol Trooper Jamill Curry was traveling on Highway 300 and attempted to turn in order to make a traffic stop. Curry tried to turn onto Highway 19 at PFC Road, and another vehicle pulled out into his path.

Curry’s patrol cruiser then collided with the other vehicle. The make and model of the second vehicle was not reported. Photos from the scene show a light-colored sedan with damage to the passenger’s side. Curry’s vehicle is not pictured at the scene.

Curry sustained a minor injury to his left wrist, but it is not clear if he required medical attention beyond the scene. Reports indicated he did not suffer any broken bones.

The driver of the other vehicle, 61-year-old Florence McCullough (city not reported), sustained a head injury and was transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. The extent of the head injury was not reported.

Investigation into the crash is ongoing, but Troopers believe McCullough’s sight might have been affected by the sun, which was rising at the time and could have contributed to the crash. Investigators said they anticipated only issuing a warning to McCullough. No information was reported about the subject of the traffic stop that Curry was attempting to make before the crash.
