Georgia Funeral Home Owner Killed in Vehicle Accident

January 26, 2019

BRUNSWICK, GA. – A Georgia funeral home owner was killed January 21 in a vehicle accident in Brunswick, Georgia, according to an online news report published at thebrunswicknews.com. The accident occurred at a local park during a gathering for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.*

At approximately 6 p.m. on January 21, 66-year-old Ronnie L. Jones was attending a gathering of longshoremen at Selden Park in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The park is located on U.S. Highway 341 near Brunswick. Jones was in a pickup truck and stopped to talk to someone. He thought he placed the truck in park, but it was in reverse.

Jones exited the vehicle, and the open door hit him and knocked him to the ground. The pickup truck then rolled backward and ran over him. Jones suffered severe injuries, and an ambulance crew transported him to the Southeast Georgia Health System hospital in Brunswick. He tragically died at the hospital that evening.

Jones had been the owner of R.L. Jones and Sons Funeral Home since 2002. He is remembered by friends and family as someone committed to his community. Every year, Jones organized a drive for clothing, food, and Christmas toys for families in the area. He was also known for bringing food to elderly community members and nursing home residents.

“My husband grew up as an underprivileged person,” said Jones’s wife, Priscilla Jones. “But he cared about people, and he love his community. He especially helped with anything that had to do with children. He gave to people that needed it. He was a wonderful man.”
